Director of Development
Buffalo, NY or Remote
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Reports To: Executive Director
The Director of Development is responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support
the mission and growth of The Milestone Foundation. This role oversees all aspects of development, including major gifts, grants, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, special events, and donor stewardship. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and dynamic relationship-builder who can inspire giving and foster a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. This role does require travel.

KEY Responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience (nonprofit and legal sector experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts, meeting fundraising goals, and managing complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills; proven ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
Qualifications
  • Fundraising Strategy & Leadership: Develop
and implement annual fundraising plans aligned
with the Foundation’s goals; set measurable targets, track progress, and manage a diverse funding portfolio across individuals, foundations, corporations, and events.
  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Identify,
cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects; oversee donor engagement, recognition, and retention strategies; maintain accurate records and reporting in the donor database.
  • Grants & Institutional Giving: Research and
pursue grant opportunities; build relationships
with granting institutions; oversee proposal development and reporting, managing external
grant writers or contractors as needed.
  • Events & Outreach: Plan and execute
fundraising events and conference participation (virtual and in-person); represent the Foundation
as a brand ambassador to strengthen visibility
and partnerships.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and mentor
the Fundraising & Development Manager; collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Board; provide fundraising training and support to staff
and board members.
