Position Overview

We are seeking a Legal Attorney Associate to play a key role in advancing our mission by supporting legal analysis, business development, donor engagement, and strategic expansion. This individual will assist in case evaluations, ensure state regulatory compliance, cultivate relationships with law firms and donors, and help drive the foundation’s overall growth. The ideal candidate will have a background in civil litigation, a passion for social justice, and an interest in nonprofit development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze legal documents related to pre-settlement funding applications.
  • Assist in case evaluations to assess eligibility for funding.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state laws and regulations governing legal funding.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with law firms, attorneys, and advocacy organizations.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts, donor outreach, and grant writing to expand the foundation’s impact.
  • Support business development initiatives to grow awareness and partnerships within the legal community.
  • Conduct legal research on consumer protection, funding ethics, and litigation trends.
  • Draft memos, reports, and recommendations for leadership and the board.
  • Represent The Milestone Foundation at legal conferences, events, and networking opportunities.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school (2024 law graduates encouraged to apply).
  • 1-5 years of experience in civil litigation, personal injury, legal funding, or related practice areas.
  • Strong understanding of legal and ethical considerations in pre-settlement funding.
  • Interest or experience in nonprofit development, donor relations, or business growth strategies.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Passion for social justice and access to justice initiatives.
