Since 2016, The Milestone Foundation has provided more than $6 million in nonprofit funding to over 900 plaintiffs, partnering with more than 320 law firms nationwide. Why Fundraising Matters
For-profit litigation funders often charge high, compounding interest rates that allow them to grow, cover business expenses, and turn a profit, while covering the risk they assume by funding plaintiffs. But in this model, the plaintiff suffers – oftentimes they are essentially stripped of their recoveries because they owe so much back to the funder.
The Milestone Foundation is different. We charge the lowest rates possible, to protect plaintiffs from exploitation. And every advance that gets paid back goes back into the pool of funds available to help the next plaintiff. But this ethical model comes at a cost. We have no investors, no endowment, no corporate backing, and no steady revenue stream. Without donor support, our work simply can’t continue.
