Case Manager
Buffalo, NY or Remote
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Reports To: Executive Director
The Case Manager is responsible for overseeing plaintiff funding requests from initial outreach through repayment, ensuring a seamless and supportive experience for both plaintiffs and their attorneys. This role serves as a primary point of contact for communication with plaintiffs, attorneys, and firm partners, maintaining strong relationships while coordinating case agreements, payment disbursements, and follow-up throughout the lifecycle of each request. The Case Manager also tracks and analyzes case data, manages incoming and outgoing payments, and prepares case summaries and recommendations for internal review. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working at the intersection of legal, financial, and nonprofit operations. In addition to managing case communications and reporting, the Case Manager helps strengthen partnerships with attorneys and vendor partners, supports internal review meetings to assess new funding requests, and identifies opportunities to improve and streamline internal processes and systems. The role may also include conducting research on legal or operational initiatives, maintaining state regulatory registrations, drafting documents as needed, and assisting with marketing or fundraising efforts that advance The Milestone Foundation’s mission. All work must be carried out with strict adherence to confidentiality obligations and attorney-client privilege standards.

KEY Responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive fundraising experience (nonprofit and legal sector experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts, meeting fundraising goals, and managing complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills; proven ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
Qualifications
  • Fundraising Strategy & Leadership: Develop
and implement annual fundraising plans aligned
with the Foundation’s goals; set measurable targets, track progress, and manage a diverse funding portfolio across individuals, foundations, corporations, and events.
  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Identify,
cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects; oversee donor engagement, recognition, and retention strategies; maintain accurate records and reporting in the donor database.
  • Grants & Institutional Giving: Research and
pursue grant opportunities; build relationships
with granting institutions; oversee proposal development and reporting, managing external
grant writers or contractors as needed.
  • Events & Outreach: Plan and execute
fundraising events and conference participation (virtual and in-person); represent the Foundation
as a brand ambassador to strengthen visibility
and partnerships.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and mentor
the Fundraising & Development Manager; collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Board; provide fundraising training and support to staff
and board members.
